A hospital elevator is built around the bed — a long, narrow car so a stretcher, its IV pole and two or three staff fit comfortably, not a passenger lift with a bigger cabin.

What size should a hospital elevator be?
It should be sized around the beds and trolleys your facility actually uses, plus the staff who travel with them. In practice that means a long, narrow car — commonly in the region of 1,100–1,500 mm wide by 2,100–2,700 mm deep, with a capacity of 1,600–2,500 kg. We confirm the exact size at survey by measuring against your own equipment.
What's the difference between a hospital lift and a passenger lift?
Proportions and ride. A hospital lift’s car is longer and narrower so a bed fits with staff beside it, its doors open wider for trolleys, its ride and levelling are tuned so a patient is not jolted, and its surfaces are chosen for infection control. A passenger lift with a bigger cabin does not do the same job.
What standards do hospital elevators meet?
Ours are built to EN 81-20/50 for general lift safety and EN 81-70, the European standard for accessible lifts — which covers accessible controls, clear signalling and cars that accommodate wheelchair and stretcher users.
What happens during a power cut?
Battery auto-rescue brings the car to the nearest floor and opens the doors, so a patient is never left between levels. Where a hospital has a generator or a critical-services supply, we coordinate the lift’s power arrangements with it.
Can you install a hospital lift in a working hospital?
