About Our Consultancy Service
Every building has a vertical transport problem hiding in its drawings: how many people arrive at peak, how long they will tolerate waiting, and what the structure, budget and codes will allow. Answer it early and the building works; answer it late and you inherit queues in the lobby — or capacity you paid for and never needed.
IET’s consultancy answers it with numbers. We run traffic analyses against your building’s occupancy and use, then recommend the number, size, speed and grouping of lifts or escalators that actually fit — and we put it in a specification your architect, engineer and contractor can build against.
The advice is independent of what we sell. If two lifts serve the building better than three, we say two — the study that sizes your system is only useful if you can trust it.

FAQs
When should I involve a lift consultant?
As early as possible — ideally while the building is still on the drawing board. The shaft positions, structure and lobby layout all follow from the vertical transport design, and they are far cheaper to change on a drawing than on site. If the building is already designed or built, a study is still worth it: it tells you what the system can deliver and what to fix.
What is a traffic study?
A traffic study models how people will move through your building at its busiest — how many arrive, from where, and how long they will wait for a lift. The output is a set of figures: waiting times, handling capacity and the configuration needed to hit them. It replaces guesswork and catalogue defaults with numbers specific to your building.
Do small buildings need this?
The smaller the building, the quicker the study — but the decision still matters. A six-storey apartment block choosing between one lift and two is making a decision it will live with for thirty years. For small projects the analysis is light and fast; for towers and malls it is detailed. Either way, the building gets sized on evidence.
Is the advice independent if IET also supplies lifts?
Yes, and deliberately so. The recommendation is driven by the traffic figures, not by what we would like to sell — if fewer or smaller units serve the building better, that is what the report says. You are free to tender the specification to any supplier, and we support the evaluation either way.
How much does a consultancy engagement cost?
It depends on the size and complexity of the building and how far you want us involved — a standalone traffic study is a different engagement from full design-to-tender support. We scope it after a first conversation about the project, and the first conversation costs nothing.
