Two Types, One Decision

Horizontal Walkways

Flat or near-flat runs (0–6°) for long concourses, terminals and mall atriums. People stand or walk; distance disappears.

Inclined Walkways

Gentle 10–12° runs between levels, sized for shopping trolleys and luggage carts. The standard choice for supermarkets and car parks.

What is the difference between a moving walkway and a travelator?

Nothing — they are two names for the same machine. Travelator is the common word in Kenya and the UK, moving walkway is the technical term, and some manufacturers call it an autowalk. We use them interchangeably.

Should I install a moving walkway or an escalator?

It comes down to what people are carrying. An escalator is the better choice for moving crowds between floors quickly, but a shopping trolley or luggage cart cannot ride on steps. If your customers are pushing something between levels, you need an inclined walkway; if they are simply moving between floors, an escalator does it faster.

Can shopping trolleys really go on an inclined walkway?

Yes — that is what inclined walkways are built for. The pallet band gives a continuous flat surface, and trolleys designed for walkways lock into the grooves so they cannot roll back. It is why supermarkets with a rooftop or basement car park almost always fit one.

How long can a moving walkway be?

There is no fixed ceiling. Walkways are built to the run they serve, and long spans are supported with intermediate structural supports — which is why airport concourses can run hundreds of metres. The survey confirms what your building can carry.

What does a moving walkway need from my building?

A structural span able to carry the truss, support points along the run, a shallow pit at each landing and a three-phase supply. On new buildings we coordinate this with your architect early; on existing ones the survey confirms what is there and what needs builders’ work.

Do you maintain and modernise existing walkways?

Yes. We service moving walkways under maintenance contracts, and modernise ageing units with new controllers, drives, handrails or pallets — bringing them up to current EN 115 standards instead of replacing the whole run.
